"Summer Days" is a digital painting I did in 2007 of a young satyr and his centaur best friend taking full advantage of a nice sunny summer day. It's a cute, cheery picture, and I think it's perfect on this box... which is why it's got a prime position on top.Centaurs and satyrs come straight out of Greek mythology - centaurs were half-man/half-horse, while satyrs were half-man/half-goat. These two here are modern versions, but most mythology or fantasy fans would still recognize them.
The sides have been decoupaged in a marble paper, with a decorative border of ivy leaves along the lid. The border around the picture, the inside, and the bottom have all been painted in a beautiful bronze. It has the warmest glow of any paint I've ever worked with, and I think it's given me a new appreciation of bronze. Who needs silver and gold when you can have something so lovely and warm?
The box measures approximately 5 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 3 1/4", which is a great size for a dresser or bedside table. It's roomy enough for jewelry or other special keepsakes, and it's been coated several times in Mod Podge for that extra bit of durability. I really love this box, and hopefully, someone else will, too. Check it out over at our Etsy shop!
